Attractions to visit in Padstow

Whether you are into art and culture, the wonders of nature or just a fun family day out there is plenty to attract and amuse in the Cornish town of Padstow. If nature is your thing then a visit to the Cornish Birds of Prey centre should be a good afternoon out. The centre houses more than fifty birds of prey as well as parrots, macaws, pheasants and ducks. The centre puts on regular flying displays and visitors can have hands on experience with the birds of prey. You can have a full day at the centre learning about the birds that it houses and about working with birds of prey. Lunch and refreshments are provided for visitors to the centre and you can spend the whole day and do a little work with the birds.

If you like beautiful, plants, trees and surroundings then a visit to the Japanese Gardens and Bonsai nursery could make for a good afternoon out. The garden has been nurtured through the medium of Zen philosophy until it has become a living art form. The garden is quite authentic and its authenticity has been attested to by numbers of Japanese visitors over the years. There are stone lanterns, a water basin, waterfalls, ponds bridges, bonsai and even a Japanese tea house. There are no plants as such just meticulously and artistically placed rocks and sand. In the Bonsai nursery the trees have been cultivated in open ground since 1986. The nursery holds around twenty thousand trees of both the inside and the outside variety of Bonsai trees. The garden and nursery attracts visitors from all over.

Wadebridge is just a little way inland from Plastow and is home to the Crealy Adventure Park, children can ride on some of the smaller horses and ponies and play with the rabbits, goats and other small creatures. Take a ride on the Safari train round much of the park, including the Silver Mine Lake. Join in the Swampbusters eco adventure with lots of bridges and river crossings there are also aerial walkways and sheer drop slides. Kids can sail through the air on the Viking Warrior Pirate ship. There is plenty to see and do and when the family gets tired of adventure there are plenty of cafes around the park and even a gift shop. There is also plenty for those children too small to enjoy any of the rides.

Visit Tintagel an important trading post until the end of the seventh century. There are a number of legends that suggest there was a stronghold at Tintagel long before the 13th Century Norman remains of a castle that can be seen. The castle itself actually postdates King Arthur and was built by Richard Earl of Cornwall. Excavations have revealed remains of a Dark Age civilisation there and Tintagel certainly seems to have been a royal place at around the time King Arthur was supposed to have reigned.
