Padstow Night Life
Nights out in Padstow
One of the things that many people enjoy when they are on holiday is going out in the evenings. Whether you want a romantic meal for two, a walk along the beach and a quiet drink or something a bit livelier, even a small town like Padstow has a range of venues. Two of the more popular and lively watering holes in Padstow are the London Inn and the Harbour Inn. Most of the bars and pubs are quite close together in Padstow so if you fancy a change one evening and don’t mind a short drive then it may be worth taking a look at what is on offer in the surrounding areas.
Take a stroll around Padstow’s cobbled streets and visit some of the older pubs with their stories of smuggling days gone by. Padstow is a prime example of an old fishing town with hidden passageways and bars where you least expect them.
If you are staying in Padstow then you really ought to have a blow out one evening and go for a meal and a drink at the famous Rick Stein’s fish restaurant. After your meal then why not have a late drink at the Doom Bar, which is named after the sand bar at the mouth of the estuary or try the Old Ship with all of its maritime exhibits and seafaring atmosphere. Walk a bit further on from these two bars and you come to Mariners Rock on the slipway where you can have a drink on the terrace and take in the sea views.
If you want a taste of how the inhabitants of Padstow enjoy themselves then you should visit on the first of May for the coming of summer festivities. This is one of the oldest May Day traditions in the whole of Europe and the celebration starts at midnight with a singing procession round the town and goes on till midnight the following day. If you really want to enjoy Cornwall nightlife then you have to go down the coast a little way to Newquay, which is a haven for stag nights and hen nights from all over the UK. Relax with a drink in the popular city bar before making your way along to the places where you can listen to live music and dance till the early hours. The bars and nightclubs are all within easy reach of each other so you won’t have to do much walking but you will have to find the cost of a taxi back into Padstow.
The twenty four miles to Newquay may seem a bit like a chore to enjoy some music and a drink. Why not take the water taxi from Padstow up to the nearby village of Rock. The Blue Tomato Café in Rock is great for some good music and a drink with friendly locals and helpful staff. Padstow might be a small town and Rock an even smaller village, but there are still some lively night spots here and there.
